How to Join
At Gilda’s Club you are not a patient or client, you are a member. The term comes from Gilda Radner’s tongue-in-cheek comment that having cancer gave her membership to an elite club to which she’d rather not belong. More than that, though, Gilda’s Club uses the term “member” because we want you to feel like you’re part of a community — a cancer support community.
Becoming a member of Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka is a simple, three-step process that will acquaint you with our community and our program of support.
First, give us a call 705-726-5199. You’ll speak to someone who knows our program well. He or she can answer questions about membership and help you schedule a new member meeting. Here you will meet other people who are living with cancer and learn about the cancer support community here at Gilda’s Club.
Finally, meet one-on-one with a member of our program staff to create a Customized Membership Plan (CMP). This one-hour, private collaborative discussion with one of our licensed mental health professionals allows you to structure a personal and unique plan for emotional and social support at Gilda’s Club. This personalized plan incorporates the parts of the Gilda´s Club program that best serve your needs and interests.
It is Customized … because you are an individual.
It is Membership … because you are not alone.
It is a Plan … because your decisions about your needs are taken seriously.
Once you have completed this membership process you can participate in the social events, workshops, educational seminars or support groups at Gilda’s Club. You can join in as much or as little as you like, sharing your own experience within a caring, supporting community.
All of our programs are offered to members absolutely free of charge!
