Help Us Make A Big Difference With Mastectomy Kits

Volunteers at Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka translated a love of quilting into a Mastectomy Kit program that has a tremendous impact on women experiencing Canada’s #1 disease amongst women – breast cancer.

These kits were created by a caring community of local businesses, volunteers, and organizations to offer comfort and support. Led by Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka volunteers, they continue to grow as a helpful complement to your medical care.

The project began when Rachel, a Gilda’s Club volunteer, created the first kits. In 2021, she joined forces with Sue Nahorney, a nurse from RVH, and Deb, a local business owner, with support from the Kempenfelt Quilters’ Guild, the project grew quickly. Together, they built a program that brings comfort and care to those facing cancer. We are grateful for all they have done to bring these kits to life and we proudly continue what they started.

We are building a community that is stronger than cancer. We have a Clubhouse that is warm, safe and full of resources and connections that you will find helpful. At Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka, we offer programs for members designed to support people living with breast cancer, such as our Breast Cancer Networking Group (in person or virtual) and educational workshops to help manage lymphedema.

Community is Stronger than Cancer

Did You Know?

It is estimated that in 2024, 30,500 Canadian women will be dx with breast cancer. This represents 25% of all new cancer cases in women in 2024. 84 Canadian women get diagnosed with breast cancer every day.

“This program comes from a place of love and support. It was started and continues to be run by previous patients of RVH. They personally know the need for these items and are such an amazing part of the post op recovery. Patients have often told me how special the kit was for them and how helpful the pillow is. It is the little things that matter the most.... Thanks for supporting this amazing program.”
