Finding The Right Support

When you learn that yourself or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, it draws in a mixture of uncertainty. Some people need help coping with the diagnosis of cancer and can struggle with dealing with this information on their own. Providing support groups is one of the ways that Gilda’s Club is available to all of those battling cancer.

Our support groups are here to offer a comforting space to those who have gone through similar experiences. Talking together and opening up can help take some of the emotional weight you have keeping you from fighting.

So That No One Faces Cancer Alone™

While you do your best to adjust to these changes, it’s important to remember that there are a number of areas affecting you that you may not even realize. Our social workers at Gilda’s Club offer expertise and emotional support in each:

Emotional Change

Dealing with difficult emotions during these times are understandable no matter how you are feeling. You need to take the time to talk through these emotions and find ways to cope with them.

Communication

No matter if you or your loved one is battling cancer, it is important for everyone to communicate their feelings and discuss their worries and fears.

Children & Adolescents

For any loved one it can be difficult to tell them that you have been diagnosed with cancer. Our social workers and group members have gone through it and are ready to help.

Adult Programs

Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka offers free Support Groups to those impacted by cancer—including those living with a cancer diagnosis, those who have finished cancer treatment, caregivers, and those who are grieving the death of someone due to cancer. All Support Groups at Gilda’s Club are professionally facilitated by a registered mental health professional, with the goal of encouraging peer support and connecting you to others who “get it.”

Family & Children Program

Gilda’s Club offers educational, play-based workshops for children and youth that focus on education about cancer, related medical experiences, and developing healthy coping strategies to support feelings that may be experienced when someone is touched by cancer. We also offer workshops designed for adults supporting children & youth who are touched by cancer.

It’s Who We Are

As a cancer patient, a family member, a friend, or a child, when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer the whole family needs emotional support and someone to talk to. Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka is a community that can join together and build social and emotional support as a supplement to regular medical care.
